University of Ottawa professor faces international backlash for humiliating flight attendants for not wearing masks

University of Ottawa law and epidemiology professor Amir Attaran is facing an international backlash for humiliating United flight attendants on social media for not wearing masks.

On Saturday, Atalan posted a photo of a flight attendant on a United flight from Ottawa to Chicago and accused the airline of breaking the law because “masks are required on all flights from Canada.”

Transport Canada said masks are required on all flights to and from Canada, a policy that has created confusion given that masks are not required on planes in the United States.

“Canada is not America, you bastards,” Atalan said, adding that United should be banned from operating flights to Canada because it did not comply with the Trudeau government’s mask rules.

Attaran’s online behavior was quickly criticized by Canadian and international figures from across the political spectrum.

Christina Pushaw, a spokeswoman for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, called the University of Ottawa professor’s behavior creepy and suggested that if he “can’t see someone’s face,” he You shouldn’t be flying.

Pushaw also called for United’s response to Attaran, accusing the airline of throwing its employees under the bus. United thank Atalan for bringing the issue to their attention.

Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld and BlazeTv podcast host Elijah Schaffer also reacted to Attaran’s tweet.

Progressives, including Huffington Post writer Yashar Ali and former Young Turk reporter Emma Vigeland, also criticized Attaran’s actions.

Meanwhile, former University of Toronto professor Jordan Peterson reacted to Atalan’s tweet, calling him a “sad rascal” and a “terrible job.”

Attaran responded to Peterson’s criticism by claiming he was a baby. He also challenged him to hold a public debate in Ottawa.

This isn’t the first time a University of Ottawa professor has been controversial over his behavior on social media.

Attaran, whose Twitter profile says he “fights charlatans, anti-vaccine people, and scientific illiteracy,” has also come under fire for his comments about the unvaccinated.

Attaran has previously called people who don’t believe in Covid vaccinations racistlow life Rubbish, loser, stupidvillage idiot, homosexuality and anti-semantic.
