The study, commissioned by digital literacy experts, compared monthly global searches for the 50 best-known self-help books on Google and Amazon to discover the most popular books.

Most Popular Self-Help Books

The most popular self-help book is Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad: The Rich Teach Their Children About Money Poor and Middle Class Don’t! “. The book gets 72,000 monthly searches on Amazon and a staggering 410,000 searches on Google. This brings its total monthly searches to 482,000, more than seven times the average search volume for the books included in the study.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones is the second most popular self-help book, with an estimated 462,000 monthly searches. James Clear’s No. 1 New York Times bestseller has sold more than 4 million copies, with searches 719% higher than the average self-help book analyzed for this study.

The third place goes to Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret. This self-help book has been popular since its release in 2006, and has since been developed into a film, which will be released in 2020. Byrne’s bestsellers are searched 385,000 times a month on Amazon and Google.

Robert Greene’s 48 Laws of Power came in at number four with an estimated 258,000 monthly searches. It was followed by Think and Grow Rich in Napoleon Hill with 219,000 monthly searches.

“Interestingly, the most searched self-help books cover a range of topics from financial freedom to developing a growth mindset. Even though four of the top ten books were published in the 1990s, they still get hundreds of thousands of hits each month search.

“As the world better learns how to recognize poor mental health, many people are looking for a way to improve their mindset and live happier lives, and self-help books remain a popular way to do that.”
