Regional athletes compete in LMC Championships, state finals next

BOYAN CITY — It has been decided who will play in their respective state finals and who will soon end the 2022 track and field season.

Earlier this week at Boyne City High School, member teams from the Lake Michigan Conference identified the best players in the league through the annual LMC tournament.

From a team perspective, Traverse City St. Francis swept the men’s and women’s games.

Claire Ranney of Harbour Springs helped the Rams finish runners-up in the 1600m relay at the LMC Championships.

The Gladiator Boys finished with a league-high 164.5 points, followed by Grayling with 108 and Charlevoix with 104. Karkaska also had 100 points and Elk Rapids had 84; Harbor Springs, 64; East Jordan, 45; and Boyne City, 26.

On the women’s side, Traverse City St. Francis won with 182 points, El Rapids was second with 125 points, followed by East Jordan with 88 points; Harbour Springs, 69; Grays, 56 ; Boyne City, 47; Karkaska, 45; and Charlevoix, 43.
