Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has been confirmed to drop this year, but Activision has yet to reveal the rumored DMZ mode. Now, a new leak is teasing a bunch of new details about the game mode.
In addition to the standard multiplayer action and campaign, Modern Warfare 2 brings an innovative new warzone. We’ve been getting a ton of information lately about Warzone 2’s changes to the original battle royale, which sounds interesting to say the least.
But what we’re really interested in is the plethora of leaked, but not yet public, DMZ patterns. Rumor has it that MW2’s third mode is a rendition of Escape from Tarkov, like the danger zone of Battlefield 2042.
Update: Modern Warfare 2 release date confirmed with official artwork trailer
Sure, the danger zone is dead as soon as it gets there, but we can only hope that the DMZ, if it’s true, behaves better. Judging by these new details, the mode will be a lot of fun.
First video leak of MW2 DMZ mode
According to a new leak from 4chan, along with video evidence, the MW2 will have a surprisingly deep DMZ mode.
DMZ, which stands for Demilitarized Zone, will allegedly be a similar game genre to Escape from Tarkov. Players must sneak into an area to loot, complete objectives, dodge or fight other players and escape successfully.
What’s interesting about the new 4chan leak is that it also includes a video that may be the first time we’ve seen a DMZ in-game.
This is just a few days after we got our first leak of the MW2 Multiplayer game!
This footage, which is likely to be deleted soon, describes the DMZ as “tactical”. high risk. High return.
It also revealed that the mode will have multiple biomes, including forests and desert towns. More importantly, there also appears to be a day/night cycle in extract mode.
However, as the MW2 makes its way into the last generation of consoles, leakers warn against expecting a huge graphical leap.
Check out a mirror of the supposed DMZ in-game footage here! However, we expect it to be removed in the near future.
Update: It seems the new DMZ footage has been debunked! This could mean the rest of the information is fake too, but we’ll have to wait and see.
MW2 DMZ Mode Details Leaked: Gunfights, Graphics, Maps, and More
In addition to the video, the 4chan leaker also revealed the long-awaited game mode.
It’s important to take any unofficial leaks with a pinch of salt, but this one is certainly pretty telling, especially with its video accompaniment.
The DMZ will reportedly have 20-35 players in total, and Infinity Ward is devoting as much resources to the mode as it does multiplayer.
DMZ seems to take a lot of inspiration from Tarkov while trying to remove a lot of clunkiness. Attachments, armor type and armor are all important in the mod.

COD fans will be delighted to see the sophisticated Gunsmith, which features features like a folding stock that unfolds at the touch of a button. Interestingly, alleged gun jamming will also make its debut.
If the player is crouching in sand or dirt, the chance of their weapon getting stuck increases, and the attachment might fix that. While this might add to the realism, we can see it’s an unwelcome experience.
Modern Warfare 2: DMZ Weight, Killstreaks, Perks
By adding more attachments, ammo, and secondary weapons, players will also be slower in the game. Packing light is recommended to slide, mount or move around the DMZ faster.
There also appears to be a killstreak, called from a random location in the map. Kill streaks and certain perks are inherently team-based.
For example, the Shot Caller perk will show enemy silhouettes to nearby teammates, even through walls.
Infinity Ward is also said to be experimenting with a teamwork system that would allow paired teammates to climb higher walls without a ladder.
Don’t forget we just got word that the DMZ will also allow players to trade skins and blueprints. If these recent leaks prove to be true, DMZ seems to be becoming an incredible game mode.
In the meantime, don’t miss the latest Warzone 2 news, including this report on the return of the classic MW2 map in the new arena.
We’ve already heard that “breakthrough innovations” are coming in Warzone 2. It sounds like Infinity Ward has a lot of tricks up its sleeve for MW2.
