Redwood City, California –(Business Wire)– Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: EA), the global leader in interactive entertainment, announced today that it will host the Apex Legends Global Series July 7-10 at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina (ALGS) Year 2 Championship. For the first time, the ALGS Championship will welcome live audiences to experience the flagship global esports series.
The ALGS tournament is coming as Apex Legends continues to gain momentum and attract more fans than ever. During the ALGS Stage 2 playoff finale on May 1, the average minute viewers (AMA) watching the party and the official ALGS broadcast channel exceeded 539,000. During the three-day competition, viewers watched more than 10.3 million hours of live content. The Apex Legends brand has also recently celebrated major milestones, including the highly anticipated release of Apex Legends Mobile and the release of Saviors Season 13 on console and PC.
“Bringing ALGS to PNC Arena is an important milestone for the Apex brand and demonstrates the game’s continued growth in the competitive landscape,” said John Nelson, Senior Director and Commissioner, EA Apex Legends Esports. “The ALGS tournament is a true celebration for fans, and we look forward to providing our community of players and the residents of Raleigh with the first-ever live ALGS tournament experience.”
PNC Arena will host 40 of the world’s top Apex Legends teams from five regions as they compete for a $2 million prize pool and the coveted ALGS title. For the first time, the ALGS community will be able to come together at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC to cheer on their favorite team. The 700,000-square-foot space will accommodate thousands of fans from around the world for the largest ALGS competition to date.
“We are excited to partner with Electronic Arts to host the inaugural Apex Legends Global Series Championship for live audiences,” said Don Waddell, president of PNC Arena and Carolina Hurricanes. “We are proud to host a variety of sports and entertainment events at PNC Arena and we look forward to hosting our first major esports event. The ALGS Championship will give us the opportunity to further cement Greater Raleigh and PNC Arena as a global esports and entertainment destination position.”
Complementing the in-field competition, the ALGS Championship will provide an interactive entertainment experience for digital audiences. The combination of cutting-edge broadcast technology (including Multiview), Twitch delivery, exclusive content and more will enhance the way fans watch ALGS tournaments online.
