Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has to ‘climb a hill’ to live up to Activision expectations after Vanguard disappointment

Activision is betting big on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, a premium experience for players in 2022. The initial logo reveal showed fan enthusiasm for the game, and the publisher hopes to make the most of it.

However, Activision claims their shortcomings in Call of Duty Pioneers suggest that upcoming games in the series will have to conquer a mountain.

Fans and developers have high hopes for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. If the publisher’s assessment of Call of Duty Pioneer is anything to go by, its goals may be important.

In a recent SEC filing, Activision discussed its expected shortfalls related to Vanguard. Nonetheless, according to the data, Call of Duty Pioneer has been the best-selling game in the US in FY21-22.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will have high expectations

Players have been excited about it since the rumors started circulating. After all, the last Modern Warfare game released in 2019 is considered the most successful game in recent times.

Activision has also been part of the hype, as it talks extensively about the upcoming project. The publisher’s ambitions are evident even in a recent SEC filing. It’s understandable because a lot of things are on it. The fact that the game will likely have at least a two-year cycle means Activision can’t go wrong.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will have more responsibility, mainly because of the reception of Call of Duty Vanguard. Sales-wise, the game did just fine, as it was the top-selling game in the U.S. last fiscal year. While it could arguably have more circulation time in games like Elden Ring, the position is still commendable.

Activision, however, was not happy with its most recent SEC filing. They argue that the context of World War II backfired and did not go the way they expected. Developers can’t seem to innovate as they want.

Activision also said that Call of Duty: Mobile has more than 650 million downloads, and that monthly active players on mobile in 2021 are nearly equal to the active player base on console and PC. They’re building a massive team for Warzone Mobile to “elevate the franchise to new heights.” https://t.co/a3fkeyBgL3

This suggests that Activision’s main issues with Call of Duty Pioneers have more to do with product quality. Despite the possible problems, it’s unrealistic to think that modern Call of Duty games aren’t selling well. The publisher wanted to get better at these, and their first chance came with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 is rumored to be a 2019 sequel, and the game is back in the modern era. There are also rumors of modes like DMZ, which will be a first for a Call of Duty game. When implemented correctly, a feature like this can work wonders.
