2022 U.S. Open odds: Surprising PGA pick, weekend prediction from golf model, 8 majors locked in

Official finalists for the first two rounds of the 2022 U.S. Open. It’s a very crowded leaderboard, as the third round begins Saturday morning at Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. Colin Morikawa and Joel Daman are currently at the top of the 2022 U.S. Open leaderboard at 5 under, while Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and three others are just one behind rod. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler entered the weekend two shots behind the leader.

Meanwhile, major champions like Brooks Koepka (E), Matsuyama (E) and Justin Thomas (+1) remain within striking distance. Caesars Sportsbook lists McIlroy and Morikawa as 4-1 favorites in new 2022 U.S. Open odds, with Lahm (9-2), Scheffler (7-1), Aaron Wise ( 16-1) and Sam Burns (16-1) next in line. With so many seasoned players at the top of the 2022 U.S. Open leaderboards, you’ll want to check out PGA Tour predictions from SportsLine’s time-tested computer models before locking in your 2022 U.S. Open picks.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, created by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been in demand since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, its best bet has been over $9,500 since then, winning game after game.

McClure’s models include Justin Thomas’ best bet to win the 2022 PGA Championship. That bet hit +1600, and McClure’s best bet returned nearly $800 throughout the tournament. At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s role model is Scottie Scheffler’s first career major title before the weekend.

In addition, McClure’s best bets include a straight win for Colin Morikawa at the 2021 British Open, despite his huge 40-1 win from long range. The scene of Jon Rahm (10-1) winning his first career major at the 2021 U.S. Open is also modeled. Going into the weekend, Ram was two shots behind the lead, but the model still thought he was the winner.

The same pattern also locks in eight majors heading into the weekend. Anyone who followed it saw huge returns.

Now that it has advanced to the 2022 U.S. Open, SportsLine ran 10,000 simulations of the final two rounds, and the results were surprising. Head over to SportsLine now to see projected leaderboards.

2022 US Open Top Predictions

One big shock the model called for at the 2022 U.S. Open: Two-time Grand Slam champion and co-leader Morikawa stumbled into the top five. The 25-year-old had his best round of the day with a 66 on Friday.

However, Morikawa has struggled on the greens this season, and the model has taken that into account. In fact, Morikawa ranks 127th in strokes: putts (-0.60), 163rd in total putts (282.7), and 107th in single putt percentage (40.14%). He also averaged 27.89 putts in the third round of the season, 40th on the tour. McClure’s model has identified several other golfers with higher value in U.S. Open weekend odds.

Another surprise: Matthew Fitzpatrick unexpectedly entered contention with a 20-1 long shot. His chances of winning are better than his odds would suggest, making him an excellent choice for the U.S. Open weekend. The 27-year-old moved into the third round with a three-shot lead after a second-round 70.

Fitzpatrick has played great golf in recent weeks, finishing in the top 10 in three of his last four events, including a top-five finish at the PGA Championship. He’s been one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour this season, finishing in the top 10 in scoring average (69.331) and increasing in strokes: tee-to-green (1.569) and scrambles (69.26%). This can help him get up to speed quickly and confidently back him in the 2022 US Open weekend betting.

How to Make a 2022 US Open Draft Pick

The model is also aimed at two golfers with odds of 35-1 or better, who will achieve amazing results. Anyone who backs these long shots can hit the ground running. You can only view this model’s US Open picks here.
